A liquorice tasting star-shaped spice originating from China. Star Anise is known as 'Chakra Phool' in India. It can be ground down into a powder or simply thrown in as it is while your recipe simmers, however, remember to remove them before serving. Star Anise is known to be anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and a great natural antiseptic. This fragrant spice is used in Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, Middle Eastern, Eurasian cuisines and compliments both meat and vegetarian dishes such as biryanis and meat curries. Star Anise can also be used in sweet dishes and desserts such as baked fruits, pies ad muffins. It is rich in antioxidants and Vitamins A and C and is known to help fight free radicals in the body. Store in an airtight container in a cool and dry place.
